Knoxville Residence

2002

On an off-campus site, the residence provides the University president with a place to host University events, as well as retreat from his daily responsibilities. The roof structure responds to the canopy of trees above, varying the height of the spaces and thus the spatial experience. The public and private spaces are distinctly separated, but connected by the cross spaces that penetrate the forms and provide views to the spectacular valley below. The mix of exterior spaces provides intimate spaces, as well as sufficient space for large gatherings.
